| Date: | 1 Oct 2006 |
| Place: | Boston, Massachusetts, United States |
| Discipline: | Boston Citywide Bike Ride and Festival  |
| Frequency: | Annually  |
| Description: | Mayor Thomas Menino launches the festivities at City Hall Plaza as an expected 3000 biking enthusiasts and casual bikers take part in Boston’s only citywide bike ride and festival, The 2nd Annual “Hub on Wheels.” With 10-mile, 20-mile, 30-mile and 45-mile rides available; anyone can participate in “Hub on Wheels”! Participants will roll out of City Hall Plaza and then sail down a car–free Storrow Drive before pedaling through the Back Bay, the South End, Franklin Park, Roslindale, Dorchester and beyond. Participants will discover the often-overlooked beauty of the city’s neighborhoods including the breathtaking Emerald Necklace stretch with the Fenway Gardens, Jamaica Pond and the Arnold Arboretum. Recognizing that for some, the last time they were on a bike it had three wheels, the folks at “Hub on Wheels” have also created the “Hub on Wheels Bike Festival” on City Hall Plaza. Good eats, great tunes, biking clinics, high wheeler competitions, an end-of-season bicycle sale and swap, kid’s activities and all-around great fun. All net proceeds from “Hub on Wheels” will benefit the Boston Digital Bridge Foundation BDBF , a non-profit organization providing technology training and computer equipment to underserved communities. In much the same way “Hub on Wheels” bridges Boston’s neighborhoods through biking, the BDBF does the same through technology.   |
