- Masterton, 120km

One of the hardest stages in the tour was the 120 km stage from Wellington
to Masterton, starting from the Parliament Buildings. On a bright sunny
day, Brendon Vesty showed why he is one of the best hill climbers in
New Zealand. He made his winning move half way up the 7 km hill to win
the KOM, but in the end it was Greg Henderson of the New Zealand Track
team who won the stage for the second time in two years. Henderson took
the Yellow jersey from Robin Reid.
