Description

The penultimate stage of La Vuelta 2001 is no easy transition before tomorrow's time trial. It finishes on the category 1 climb of Alto de Abantos (1600m), and this mountain also has to be climbed at the 132 kilometre point. It's the last chance for the climbers, with riders such as Roberto Laiseka, Joseba Beloki, Jose Maria Jiménez, Roberto Heras, Gilberto Simoni, Jose Luis Rubiera and Fernando Escartín expected to shine.
